Three students, three different situations. Here is what happened.
Mariia
Mariia came to me six months before her final exams with a Grade 2. She understood concepts in class but could not perform under exam conditions. Past paper scores were inconsistent and she had no structured revision plan.
The problem was not understanding. It was exam technique. She lost marks on method, notation, and time management. We focused on timed past paper practice with immediate mark scheme analysis. Each session targeted one weak area.
H. Choi
H. Choi had completed a first draft of his IA but received a predicted score of 13/20. His mathematics was strong, but the structure and communication were not meeting criteria expectations. Criterion C (Personal Engagement) and Criterion D (Reflection) were weak.
We restructured the personal engagement narrative to show authentic decision-making. I guided him through reflection techniques that analysed results rather than summarised them. The mathematical communication was tightened throughout.
Patricia’s Daughter
Patricia’s daughter was struggling with IB Math despite working hard. Standard approaches were not working.
I adjusted my teaching style immediately. Slower pacing, visual aids, repeated reinforcement of core patterns. Sessions focused on building confidence alongside competence. She is now confident in topics that used to feel impossible and making steady progress in her IB Math course.
